When I was 15 my mom clipped an ad from the paper for me. Little did I know that slip of newsprint would change my life and that of my family. The Old Forge Community Resource Centre was looking for workers to help senior citizens in Ottawa maintain their properties and stay in their homes longer. The idea of helping people and working outside appealed to me, so I started riding around on my bike to mow lawns, weed gardens, and trim hedges for seniors. In 2004, at age 20, I decided to make an official lawn care business of it, just to make enough money to pay my way through university — or so I thought. I enlisted my brother Jonathon’s help and together we launched Maki’s Mowing and More. We were driving around Nepean in the family car pulling a trailer we rebuilt from the (very rusty) frame up, raking, aerating, and mowing lawns. Humble beginnings for what is now a thriving service business with six trucks on the road serving hundreds of clients in Ottawa, Nepean, Kanata, and Prescott!

Spring Cleanup

We can provide all the services you need to get your lawn cleaned up after the winter and looking great for the seasons ahead.

Lawn Care Packages

Our basic Lawn Care Package includes aeration, overseeding, and fertilizing in early Spring to jump-start growth for the season.

Full-service Gardening

Whether you’re a young family in a new home looking for an attractive, low-maintenance garden design, or seniors who have spent years developing and beautifying your gardens.

Lawn Mowing

We use self-propelled walk-behind lawn mowers with either 21-inch or 30-inch cut width to give you a clean cut with nice straight lines.

Hedge Trimming

If you have hedges, shrubs, or low trees you know that regular trimming is necessary both to keep them thick and healthy and to avoid having them encroach on the usable space of your yard.

Landscaping Services

Whether you’re looking to reseed or resod a damaged lawn, freshen up an existing garden, establish a rock garden, or build a retaining wall, path, patio or deck, we are your one-stop source.

Fall Cleanup

We use blowers and plastic rakes to make a clean sweep of your lawn, gardens, driveway, and walkways. For smaller cleanups, leaves are bagged in yard waste bags ready for disposal.

Eavestrough Cleaning

As long as they do their job, we don’t think to check eaves or clean them until they start bending, leaking, or spilling. Our twice-annual Eavestrough Cleaning Package will do wonders for the efficiency and longevity of your water-removal system.
